Experience


​Over the course of his 24 years as a psychiatrist, Dr. Suddaby has gained experience in several related and inter-connected areas of psychiatric practice, with a particular interest in the impact of mental illness in the work environment.

Dr. Suddaby's experience affords him an in-depth understanding of the far-reaching impact of mental illness on the patient/worker, family, coworkers, supervisors, organizational leaders, occupational health departments, insurers, treating clinicians, the health care system, and the economy.

He has sub-specialty training in family/systems psychiatry and has provided short-term and long-term psychotherapeutic treatment to individuals, couples, families, and community networks. General psychiatric practice over the past 23 years has included an integrated evidence-based approach to medication treatment of mental illness.

Dr. Suddaby has extensive experience as an Independent Psychiatric Evaluator in all contexts and acts as an expert witness. In addition, he is certified:  
Certification Medico-Legal Expertise (CSME) & C-CAT (MB) through the Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators (CSME)

As an Organizational Psychiatrist, Dr. Suddaby has advised employers on conflict resolution, harassment, return to work, employer-employee relations, and disability management.

As a Management Consultant in a non-medical context, he has experience in leadership coaching and development in service of transformational corporate change.

In 2010, Dr. Suddaby founded a mental health company that offered multidisciplinary, psychiatry-led care for employees with third party funding for early treatment of mental health issues, with a focus on rehabilitation and return to work.

Dr. Suddaby has been certified as an expert witness in Ontario Superior Court as well as in several administrative tribunals.
